Here are 24 lessons from 2024 in no particular order:
1. God is better than we think – our challenge is believing it.
2. Disagreement doesn’t equal persecution or hate. Not everybody who disagrees with you is trying to crucify you or hate you.
3. Some who spoke into your future may not support you when you arrive there. Keep going anyway.
4. Suffering has become such an idol in the church that we have lost sight of His goodness. Suffering might shape your story, but it’s never God’s signature. Suffering came through Adam’s choice, not God’s original design. He now redeems it. He does not orchestrate it. The God who weeps with you doesn’t wound you. Read more here.
5. 10min of silence daily will change your life in ways you’d never expect.
6. Hate your job? Quit. Want more time with your family? Do it. When this short stint of life is up, we will wish we spent more time with the ones we loved, doing what we love.
7. Rest is the underrated power. While many choose to struggle against the storm, I’ve learned to take a nap. After all, the One who conquered the storm wasn't among the majority struggling against it. It was the One sleeping in it.
8. Provision is a promise. Wealth is a partnership. God always supplies your needs (Phil 4:19), but He gives you the ability to create wealth (Deu 8:18).
9. Agape, not activism, is the only power that can break the cycle of oppression and bring lasting change. Read more here.
10. The greatest struggle we will ever face in our journey is letting go of control. The greatest act that will open up more and more goodness is also letting go of control. Life is hard and heavy when we hold onto control. Life becomes light and easy when we let go and trust Him.
11. Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is just sit with God.
12. If you can't walk with people who disagree with you, you'll never become the mature son all creation is waiting for.
13. It’s not always either/or, it can be and/both. Religion forces you to pick a side and condemns you if you don’t pick theirs. But you don’t have to limit yourself to one when God offers both. For example: You can pursue financial growth AND spiritual growth. You can embrace rest AND be productive. You can have structure AND still enjoy freedom. It’s not always either/or.
14. God delights in your decisions and involvement. You’re not a puppet or robot. He created you to think, choose, and journey with Him. In the same way He gave Adam the choice to name the animals, He invites us to make decisions with Him and walks with us in them.
15. Those who know how to be loved by God will always outgrow those who only know how to behave for God.
16. No parent ever regretted spending too much time with their kids. But many parents have regretted never spending enough. Kids are only young once. Embrace it now.
17. You can never outperform your identity – your subconscious beliefs. Even if you are praying and saying the right stuff, what’s true in your heart will determine the outcome (Prov 23:7)
18. Romans 8 doesn’t say creation is waiting for the RAPTURE or REVIVAL. It says creation is waiting for the REVEALING of mature sons. It’s a different R word. The first two rely on God to do something (apathy). The latter requires you and I to become something – to be who we were always created to be (maturity).
19. While many focus on the “doom and gloom,” I have learned to be so captivated by Christ in me – the hope of the world. It doesn’t make you naive or ignorant (there’s that religious either/or mentality from lesson 13 again). It makes you more aware of a higher reality and victory that has already been won.
20. Servants strive to live FOR God. Sons live WITH God. Servants focus on obedience and instruction. Sons focus on oneness and intimacy, and obedience and instruction become a natural byproduct, not a prerequisite.
21. The enemy doesn’t need to defeat you if he can distort your view of God.
22. Sometimes it’s better to have peace than it is to be right. “Let it be unto you according to your faith” has become a worthwhile response.
23. Fear never produces life nor the kingdom.
24. The complicated gospel that has infiltrated the church is currently being detoxed. Simplicity is being restored, leading to greater wonder, creativity and solutions in the world. Read more here.
