As the new year begins, it’s a chance to reset, refocus, and step into the life you truly desire. But real growth doesn’t come from doing more. It often comes from doing less—on purpose.
Here are five powerful things to embrace this year to create your best year yet.
1. Slow Down
We live in a world that glorifies busyness, but being busy doesn’t mean being productive or fulfilled. Slowing down allows you to savor the present moment, reflect deeply, and live with greater clarity and purpose.
Life’s richest moments are found in the pauses, not the rush.
Practical examples:
Take 10 minutes each morning to breathe deeply, journal, or pray before you start your day.
Create space in your schedule for rest—whether it’s a quiet evening walk or a no-screen day.
Say “no” to commitments that drain you, so you can say “yes” to what truly matters.
When you slow down, you’ll notice life more clearly. Stress decreases, joy increases, and you become more intentional with your time.
Hurry is the enemy of presence.
As Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God.”
2. Simplify
Life becomes overwhelming when it’s cluttered—whether that’s your home, schedule, or mind. Simplifying clears the noise, helping you focus on what’s most important.
Clarity comes when you clear the clutter.
Practical examples:
Declutter one area of your home each week—your closet, your desk, or your inbox.
Set three priorities for the day instead of a long to-do list. See my 3x3 BE routine here.
Limit your daily distractions by turning off unnecessary notifications.
Simplicity brings freedom. With less clutter, you’ll feel lighter, make better decisions, and have space to enjoy what matters most.
What you let go of makes room for who you’re becoming.
As Leonardo da Vinci once said, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”
3. Embrace Silence
We’re surrounded by constant noise—media, conversations, and our own thoughts. Silence is where you reconnect with yourself and hear the whispers of God’s guidance.
Silence isn’t empty—it’s full of answers.
Practical examples:
Spend 5–10 minutes a day sitting in complete silence, free of distractions.
Take a tech-free weekend to reset and reconnect with nature or loved ones.
Practice listening more in conversations instead of planning your response.
Silence nurtures clarity, peace, and spiritual awareness. In the stillness, you can process emotions, find solutions, and hear the voice of truth.
God speaks loudest in the stillness.
In 1 Kings 19:12, we’re reminded that God often speaks in “a gentle whisper.”
4. Deal With Subconscious Beliefs
Many of the limits we face in life aren’t external—they’re internal. Unresolved beliefs about your worth, abilities, or identity can block you from stepping into the abundant life you’re meant to live.
You can’t change the fruit until you deal with the root.
Practical examples:
Journal your thoughts when you feel stuck or afraid, and look for patterns.
Work with a coach, counselor, or mentor to uncover and replace limiting beliefs.
Affirm truth over your life daily. For example: “I am loved, capable, and called to flourish.”
When you confront and replace negative beliefs, you break free from cycles of frustration. You’ll feel empowered, aligned with your purpose, and open to greater possibilities.
Your life rises to the level of your subconscious beliefs.
Proverbs 23:7 reminds us, “As a man thinks in his heart (subconscious mind) so he is."
5. Surrender (Let Go of Control)
Trying to control everything leads to exhaustion and anxiety. Surrender doesn’t mean giving up; it means trusting God and releasing what isn’t yours to carry.
Letting go isn’t giving up—it’s giving God room to move.
Practical examples:
Start each day with a prayer of surrender: “God, I trust You with my life today.”
Reflect on areas where you’ve been striving and ask, “What would it look like to let this go?”
Practice gratitude for what you have instead of worrying about what’s next.
Surrender brings peace, freedom, and deeper trust. It allows you to partner with God rather than work against Him.
When you release your grip, you’ll find His hand.
Proverbs 3:5–6 encourages us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”
A Final Thought
The best year of your life won’t come from chasing more—it’ll come from stepping back, tuning in, and growing from the inside out.
Slow down.
Simplify.
Embrace silence.
Renew your subconscious mind.
Surrender.
This year, let’s not strive to “make it happen.” Let’s align with the life that we have already been invited into and that is already waiting for us. As Jesus said in John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
Here’s to your most abundant year yet!
Questions for reflection
1. What would my life look like if I slowed down and truly savored each moment this year?
2. What’s one thing I’m holding onto that no longer serves me—and how might letting it go create more freedom and joy?
3. If I believed I was fully loved and capable, how would I show up differently in 2025?
Bless you
