Ever have those moments where life and faith just feels overwhelming?
It could be a number of things:
maybe you're restless, frustrated, or struggling to find clarity
you might be grappling with inner conflict
or you're just overwhelmed by the daily grind of life
You're not alone.
If this resonates with you, there are a 3 ways you can hear the rest of the message:
or continue reading below
Over my journey, I’ve faced my own moments of overwhelm, whether from genuine conflict within my soul or just the busyness of life.
What I often see is that when people feel this way, they begin to question themselves:
“Is something wrong with me?"
"Have I messed up my calling?"
"Is God distant?”
I want to say that it’s unlikely any of those things.
More often than not, it’s a divine pruning—a process where God is gently detaching you from old ways of relating to Him so that you can step into something new.
It’s an invitation to a deeper connection.
Jesus is saying, “Come to me when you’re weary and heavy-laden, and I’ll give you rest.”
But you have to come to Him, He won't impose Himself on you.
Here are 3 things that have helped me in these moments:
1. Simplicity
Simplify your faith, life and the activities that surround it.
We often cling to everything and scramble to hold it all together, thinking that comfort lies in control. But our comfort was never meant to be found in our circumstances – it’s in Him alone.
Even if it means spending just 5 minutes being still with God, that’s enough.
I recently spoke with a new mum who felt guilty for not reading the Bible for an hour every day like she used to. I reminded her that God is present in every moment, delighting in her new role as a mum.
The relief and tears that followed were sign of the simplicity she was desperately needing.
It’s not about our performance.
It’s about His finished work.
And we rest and flow from that.
Simplicity is key.
2. Structure
When life feels chaotic, a little structure can help ground you.
Think of it like the trellis that supports a grapevine. Without it, the vine can wither. With it, it flourishes.
Structure in our lives can provide the support we need to flourish. Whether it’s establishing a routine or setting specific times for prayer or reflection, find what works for you. Flow.
3. Fun
Don’t forget to have fun.
I'm amazed at how much we Christians forget – or don't even know – that God is fun. Yes, God is good, but He is also fun.
Sometimes, in the midst of our spiritual practices, we forget the joy of simply being with God. He delights in joy and laughter.
I once heard a testimony from a lady who was miraculously healed after being paralyzed in her legs for years.
She was so moved by it that she asked God, "What do You want me to do for You?"
Her thinking was that she should go and preach, start a ministry, or be this amazing Christian for God.
But Jesus responded to her and said, “Come on a bike ride with Me."
And so she did.
After years of not being able to, there she was, riding into the sunset with Jesus.
It's one of the most beautiful testimonies I've ever heard, and really speaks to the intimacy that Jesus desires to have with us.
Many times we think we have to do things for God. But it's actually about being and doing things with God.
So do something fun, and you will be pleasantly surprised to find that God is in it.
Be a child again.
Again, here are the 3 tips:
1. Simplicity
2. Structure
3. Fun
Questions for reflection:
1. How can I simplify my life and faith right now?
2. What's one thing I can put in place for structure?
3. What's something fun I can do today? In the words of prophet Nike: "Just Do It!"
Bless you,
Lee
