The Last Days: Deception or Outpouring?

Many are quick to sound the alarm about the deceptions and destruction of the last days. Few are talking about the outpouring. But both are happening. The question is: which one are you focused on most?

The Last Days Are Not Just About Darkness

Jesus and the apostles warned us about deception, lawlessness, and falling away (Matthew 24:10-12, 2 Thessalonians 2:3). But the last days are also marked by an unprecedented move of God’s Spirit. Joel prophesied it:

“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.” (Joel 2:28)

Peter confirmed it:

“This is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people…’” (Acts 2:16-17)

So why do so many focus on the deception and ignore the outpouring?

Fear magnifies the darkness. Faith magnifies the outpouring.

Why the Outpouring is Overlooked

Fear-Based Narratives – Many have been conditioned to focus on surviving the last days rather than thriving in them through the Spirit.

Religious Mindsets – Some believe we are in a time of decline, missing that God's kingdom never shrinks—only expands (Isaiah 9:7).

Overemphasis on Judgment – Many expect God’s judgment more than His mercy, missing that He is still in the business of redemption and restoration.

Media Influence – The world and even some churches amplify chaos, crisis, and fear, while downplaying the reality of a powerful move of God.

Lack of Teaching – Many have not been taught to expect the Spirit’s outpouring, leaving them unaware of what is already happening.

What You Focus On, You Empower

If you believe the last days are only about chaos and deception, you will live in fear, suspicion, and self-preservation. If you believe the last days are about an outpouring of God’s Spirit, you will live in expectation, boldness, and divine purpose.

You weren’t born to bunker down. You were born to burn bright.

Yes, deception is real. But so is the outpouring. And those who focus on what God is doing will walk in a greater measure than those who only brace for what the enemy is doing.

It’s Not Either/Or – It’s Both

We must recognize that the last days include both deception and outpouring. One does not cancel out the other. Jesus spoke of wheat and tares growing together (Matthew 13:30). Darkness will increase, but so will God’s glory and power (Isaiah 60:1-3).

The presence of deception does not mean there is no outpouring. In fact, the greatest moves of God often come in the midst of great opposition. The question is not which one is happening—it’s which one are you participating in?

The Kingdom Is Advancing, Not Retreating

The greatest deception is believing the enemy is winning.

Some act like Christianity is in decline, as if the enemy is winning. But Jesus said, “I will build My church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18). Gates don’t attack. They defend. That means we are supposed to be on the offense.

The gates of hell don’t advance. They crumble.

C.S. Lewis put it well: “Enemy-occupied territory—that is what this world is. Christianity is the story of how the rightful king has landed... and is calling us all to take part in a great campaign of sabotage.”

The world isn’t getting darker. The light is getting brighter. (Isaiah 60:1-3). The kingdom is not shrinking. It’s expanding. The gospel isn’t losing—it’s advancing.

How to Position Yourself for the Outpouring

It’s not enough to know about the outpouring. You have to position yourself to receive and release it. Here’s how:

1. Expect It

What you don’t expect, you won’t receive. Jesus often said, “According to your faith be it unto you.” (Matthew 9:29). If you believe these days are only for deception and destruction, you’ll miss what God is pouring out.

What you prepare for is what you participate in.

2. Stay Full of the Spirit

You can’t pour out if you’re empty. Ephesians 5:18 says, “Be filled with the Spirit.” Make room for His presence daily. Pray. Worship. Meditate on His Word. Let His Spirit fill and lead you.

3. Speak What God Is Saying

Joel said sons and daughters would prophesy. That means hearing God and speaking His truth into a chaotic world. Don’t just repeat the news. Speak the news of the Kingdom.

4. Walk in Boldness

The early church faced persecution, deception, and turmoil. But instead of shrinking back, they prayed for more boldness (Acts 4:29). Fear is not your portion. Power, love, and a sound mind are. (2 Timothy 1:7)

Surviving the last days is not the goal—thriving in the Spirit is.

5. Partner With What God Is Doing

Don’t just talk about revival—live in it. Pray for people. Release healing. Encourage prophecy. Advance the Kingdom in whatever sphere God has placed you. The outpouring isn’t coming to a few special people—it’s coming through surrendered ones.

Hell has a plan, but heaven has already won.

Final Thought: What Side of the Last Days Are You On?

This is not a time to retreat. It’s a time to rise.

Darkness and deception will increase—but so will the Spirit’s outpouring. Fear and lawlessness will spread—but so will the power of God.

The enemy sows deception, but God pours out His Spirit—what you focus on determines your reality.

The question is: What are you focusing on? What are you preparing for? Because what you focus on, you will experience.

The last days aren’t just a countdown—they’re a call to rise.

Questions for reflection:

1. What am I focusing on more—God’s outpouring or the enemy’s deception?

2. How am I actively positioning myself to receive and release God’s Spirit in these days?

3. Am I living in boldness and expectation, or in fear and self-preservation?

Bless you,

Lee
